Arrangements For The Admission of Children With Disabilities
A Maltby Manor Academy, the admission of children with disabilities is considered in the first instance in the same way as non disabled children. Further considerations are made in the light of need and accessibility and the school would work with parents/carers and other agencies involved to ensure that appropriate provision could be provided. It is the school policy to accommodate children with disabilities should parents wish and individual needs are planned for to prevent any children with disabilities being treated less favourably than other children. Staff organise human and physical resources within the school to increase access to learning and participation by all children.
Education does not only happen during lessons and during the school day. Our teaching staff strive to provide a range of extra-curricular activities which are open to all students.
Subject to risk assessment, we ensure that all our students but particularly those with SEND are included in the activities available, accepting that sometimes this will mean additional arrangements to allow them to take part in activities. For example, sometimes one-to-one support on trips may be provided , depending on the level of need.
Where specific access arrangements need to be made, we involve parents/carers by:
- discussing support and risk control measures with parents/carers;
- taking advice from the place to be visited in terms of their facilities and accessibility.
Existing facilities provided to assist access to the school by children with disabilities:
- Wheelchair access onto school grounds via the entrance.
- Car park has disabled access.
- Disabled parking space
- Wheelchair access into the school.
- Carpeted classrooms to aid hearing impaired children’s learning.
- Exterior lighting to improve evening access.
- Routes to the main entrance are clearly signed and free from obstructions
- Disabled toilet
- Adjustable changing bed
- No steps – the whole school is accessible
Consultation - Proposed Maltby Learning Trust Admission Arrangements 2026/2027
Open from Monday 16th December 2024 until Monday 27th January 2025
INTRODUCTION
In accordance with the DfE’s 2021 statutory ‘School Admissions Code’ guidance, as the Admissions Authority, the Trust must consult on its Academies' admission arrangements when changes are proposed, and at least once every seven years. For this reason, a consultation is currently being held to meet the Trusts statutory duty.
Maltby Learning Trust is committed to providing an excellent education for all children and young people within our community. As part of this commitment, we are conducting an open consultation on our proposed admission arrangements for the academic year 2026/27. This consultation gives parents, carers, staff, and the wider community the opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed arrangements before they are finalised.
This consultation applies to the following Academies within Maltby Learning Trust:
The consultation is broken down into two areas
Removal of the following over-subscription criteria for all the Academies listed above:
- Children who, on 15thJanuary 2026 (Primary Academies) or 31st October 2025 (Secondary Academies), have a specific medical reason, confirmed by a medical practitioner, which the Admission and Local Authority are satisfied makes attendance at this school essential. Parents should ensure that they provide full supporting information to be considered along with their application.
- Children who, on 15th January 2026 (Primary Academies) or 31st October 2025 (Secondary Academies), have a compelling social reason which the Admission and Local Authority are satisfied makes attendance at this school essential. The kind of overriding social reasons which could be accepted are where there is evidence that the child’s education would be seriously impaired if he or she did not attend the preferred school. Parents should ensure that they provide full supporting information to be considered along with their application.
A change in the Published Admission Number (PAN) for Maltby Manor Academy, from September 2026:
- Reduce the PAN from 60 to 45.
